If you spill soda on your desktop's keyboard, you can simply throw that keyboard away and buy another one. But when the spill happens on your Sony VAIO laptop, that replacement is not so easy. Replacing the can be quite costly and time-consuming, so it is best to try to fix the keyboard first. Taking the time to clean the thoroughly could save you a lot of time and money.
Allow the laptop to dry thoroughly before attempting to work on it. Shut the laptop down and remove the power cord. Remove the battery from the unit as well and set it aside.
Moisten a soft lint-free cloth to the point where it is damp but not wet. Wipe the entire surface of the keyboard with the damp cloth. Get between the keys as good as you can with the cloth.
Dip a cotton swab in warm water and swab the area between the keys. Change cotton swabs often, discarding each one as it becomes soiled. Continue to clean each key carefully, concentrating on the areas that took the brunt of the soda spill.
Wipe the keyboard with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove any remaining moisture. Allow the keyboard to dry for 10 to 15 minutes, then power the laptop on.
Open a text editor or word processing program and test each of the keys. Shut the laptop down and clean any problem keys with a cotton swab until all the keys are working again.
